Infusion Therapy
For many years patients requiring intravenous treatment had to remain in the hospital for weeks. The many benefits to recovery in a home environment are recognized in the health care community. Infusion therapy is common in the home. Patients requiring antibiotics, total parenteral nutrition, hydration, or other medications by intravenous means can return home earlier, and often achieve independence sooner. Our nurses are certified to administer IV medication, care for a variety of devices, and teach patients requiring infusion therapy. The technical parts of administering and managing an IV are often learned by patients and/or family members. The medical implications of infusion therapy and the underlying reason for the IV therapy are complex, and our nurses provide the clinical skills of assessment, care, and teaching as well as coordination with the physician. Our program is overseen by a nationally certified infusion RN (CRNI) who is a member of our home care staff.
